Your office space is a hugely important part of your business. In some ways, it’s like a hidden employee in and of itself. The workspace of you and your staff can directly affect the morale and productivity in the office. With this in mind, it makes sense that business owners and managers want to pay attention to how the office space is designed. Here are some things to bear in mind to design the ideal office space.
Extending Your Office Space
One way to make your office space more productive is to grow it. If you own the land your property is on, you have options to expand and potentially use the space more wisely. For example, a hybrid steel building could be used to add storage buildings onto the site or even another office structure, allowing you to hire more employees.
It’s important to find a good balance between on-site parking, which can be a huge boon for employees, and a wise use of the space your company has. Another option is to explore the space around your property and potentially buy more land for expansion.
Office Layout
The layout of your office needs to facilitate your employees and the kind of work that they do. Different industries will require different kinds of workspaces. For example, a factory floor is a considerably different environment than an office.
If your employees manufacture products or do other physical work, then you will need to create a safe, wide-open, well-lit area for them to work. The layout will need to be able to encompass the work that’s being done, as well as provide plenty of space for your employees to move around.
However, the layout of a more general office space can also vary depending on the industry and your employees. If the office is for creative or collaborative work, such as a marketing or design team, then an open office space will allow employees to easily communicate with each other and come up with ideas.
Some employees prefer to work alone, as their job requires focus and fewer interruptions. In these cases, closed-off offices may work better. You can use drywall installation to quickly create enclosed offices for your employees.
Office Lighting
One aspect of office design that sometimes goes overlooked is the lighting. People need well-lit areas to work more efficiently. A poorly lit office space can cause eye strain and can put a drain on employee morale. Depending on the work being done, it could even be dangerous.
There are different types of office lighting to choose from. While natural light is best, using large windows and skylights to stream light into your office space, you will have to utilize artificial lighting to make sure that your office has enough light.
LED lighting is considered to be the gold standard of artificial lighting. It’s efficient, bright, and doesn’t flicker or irritate people’s eyes. LED lights have a fantastic lifespan, so you won’t need to replace the bulbs for a long while, and they continue to shine brightly as they get older. The bulbs are also safer and more cost-effective than other bulbs.
Office Cleanliness
The cleanliness of your office reflects the attitude of your company. It also keeps your employees safe and healthy, as it reduces the risk of allergies and improves morale. A hygienic office means that people won’t get sick as often, which improves productivity in the workplace.
There are a few ways to keep your workplace clean and tidy. Make sure that clutter isn’t allowed to pile up and that any obstructions are removed from walkways. Hire cleaners to regularly clean the office space.
