Enhanced leadership performance can be a major advantage to a business of any size, but you might feel that all avenues for improvement have been exhausted. However, have you considered the actual design of the workspace? There are a few ways to get even more from leaders and teams with office design, including focused areas and the open office concept.
Workspace Wellbeing through Biophilic Design
It has long been known that adding natural elements to a workspace is healthy for motivation and productivity. Among the most powerful aspects of nature are plants. With biophilic design, you can use executive suite plant rental services to merge the workplace and nature, which has been shown to reduce stress and enhance cognitive function for leaders and teams. As a good start, consider plants, natural sunlight, and organic materials as part of focused decor.
Focused “Me”, and Collaborative “We” Areas
Who doesn’t love a good corner office? As enticing as this is, it is an older idea that many larger companies are phasing out and replacing it with integrated areas. Collaboration zones where leaders and teams can meet to discuss projects and ideas enhance trust among the staff and encourage collaboration. Of course, there also still needs to be private areas for sensitive discussion and personal work, and “Me” and “We” zones bridge the gap between both.
Enhanced Leadership Performance with Flexibility
It’s pretty hard to find a standard office in high-functioning workspaces these days. Studies from the past couple of decades have shown that productivity is boosted by up to 25% with flexible office spaces. Of course, it is hard to design the ideal office space, but you can drive significant performance boosts with specific layouts. These include spaces for activity-based working (ABW), fully-functioning co-working spaces, and spaces with modular desks for easy switches.
The Open Office Concept
The open office concept isn’t exactly new, but it does offer some distinct advantages over closed spaces where teams are separated from leaders. An open-plan space encourages interaction between all employees, but often disintegrates the solid boundaries between teams and management, which can be a barrier to trust and appreciation. However, offices can be loud, and sanctuary spaces with quiet zones will also encourage pleasant interaction among the staff.
Integrating Physical and Digital Spaces
Tech is everywhere in a modern office space, but it isn’t often integrated in such a way that it becomes symbiotic with the workspace. However, specific technologies will enhance leader and team performance in ways you never thought possible. When you design a modern meeting room, consider the braiding approach, which enhances meeting spaces with ultra-modern tech such as auto-framing cameras and multiple screens for enhanced attendee communication.
Summary
Enhancing workspace wellbeing through biophilic design is an overlooked but powerful path to enhanced leadership performance that positively impacts all employees. A flexible and adjustable office space has also been shown to boost productivity significantly, and no modern meeting room is adequate without fully integrated high-tech communication equipment. Any of these concepts will bring your office into the 21st century while helping leaders adapt.
