How To Reduce Noise In Your Business
Noise can be a big problem for all kinds of businesses, but if you’re working with horses, it’s even more important to ensure that your working environment is as quiet as it can possibly be. However, on top of noise being a problem for your horses, too much noise can significantly impact productivity, employee wellbeing, and even customer satisfaction – as you can see, it’s vital to reduce noise as much as you possibly can. The good news is that although this might not seem possible when you first have to think about what to do, the reality is that there are actually lots of different ways to help when it comes to reducing all that noise. Let’s take a look at what those things are so you can put them in place right away.
Where’s The Noise Coming From?
The first thing you’ll need to do is a kind of risk assessment around your working environment to work out precisely where the noise is actually coming from. It’s vital to understand the sources of the noises, otherwise how are you going to know what has to be fixed or even how to make those fixes?
Take some time to walk through your office, site, warehouse, or any other work environment you might have and make a note of where the noisiest areas are. That could be where machinery is used, for example, or where you have noisy HVAC systems, or perhaps where the horses are kept. It could be anything, and it’s likely to depend on your specific business, which is why this is something you need to do first.
Make A Barrier
There are various materials you can use to make a barrier between the noisy areas and the quieter ones – or the ones that should be more quiet, for example. When you’re able to partition off noisy areas or enclose loud equipment using strip curtains, or cubicles, or soundproofing, you can give people the safe and productive work areas they need. Not only are you making it quieter so that it minimizes distractions, but you’re also making it a lot safer – working for too long in very loud environments can cause hearing loss, so the more you’re able to limit it, the better it is for the safety and wellbeing of your staff.
The type of barrier you use will, as ever, depend on your business and the layout of your site. It can often be a good idea to have flexible barriers in place so you can change things around as and when you need to; having a more versatile workplace can work wonders for employee morale, not to mention growth in the future.
Have Noise Control Policies
Sometimes there’s nothing else for it but to include your team in helping out with noise reduction and noise control. Don’t think of this as a negative thing – it can make them feel as though they’re contributing to the business and helping out, and it might boost their productivity as a result.
It’s wise to encourage employees to minimize unnecessary noise, like loud conversation or phone calls, especially when they’re in a shared area or room. You could even provide training on how to control noise, and again, training is always seen as a positive, so it certainly won’t hurt.
