Everyone wants to feel like their buying experience is as seamless as possible. While many customers will be ready to buy, each step of the way creates potential points of hesitation and delays. Reducing friction in your sales process provides a sense of confidence that allows customers to navigate through an easier process and enjoy their interactions with you much more.
While it may seem counterintuitive, small changes to the way customers transition from interested buyers to actual buyers can result in big impacts on improving the overall buying experience.
Make Every Step Easy To Understand
Customers want clarity. If there is too much searching for information or if they are unsure about where things go next, the customer’s attention will shift away from purchasing, and they will no longer continue through the process.
Be sure to use plain language across all aspects of your website, email campaigns, and sales materials. Use minimal technical terms to describe your product or service and clearly highlight your call-to-action. The clearer the path the customer has, the greater the likelihood of them continuing through the sales funnel.
Reduce Delays During Checkout
Customers that are in a state of readiness to purchase should be able to complete their purchase as quickly as possible. Creating barriers such as confusing payment methods or long forms will impede your customer’s momentum and produce additional confusion.
Providing customers with flexible ways to pay has been shown to make an impact. Most companies currently provide customers with the ability to send them payment links so they may complete a purchase using a device (almost any) as easily and efficiently as possible. A faster checkout process creates a better buying experience.
Build Trust At Every Stage
Trust is an important factor in the decision-making process for most consumers. Before committing to a purchase, buyers need to believe they will be working with a reputable business. This can be achieved by providing genuine reviews; answering frequently asked questions (FAQs); allowing potential buyers to easily locate your contact information; and including a clearly defined return/ service warranty policy. All of these small features help build trust and allow the buyer to move comfortably from consideration to purchase.
Keep Communication Quick And Helpful
Quick response times tell the consumer that their time is valuable. It doesn’t matter if the consumer contacts you via email, social media, or through a contact form. Timely communications keep the consumer interested in continuing down the path toward a sale.
Additionally, automated confirmation emails, appointment reminder emails, and follow-up communications help streamline the buying process. Keeping the lines of communication open but avoiding too much communication shows professionalism and keeps the conversation flowing toward a positive outcome.
Review Your Process Regularly
As consumer expectations continually evolve, reviewing your sales process on a regular basis provides opportunities for improvement. Walk through your own sales process as though you are a first-time buyer and evaluate whether there are any steps that seem unclear or unimportant.
Also take note of your customer’s feedback. Identify any repeated questions. Often small changes based upon real-world interactions improve the user-experience for both the consumer and the seller.
Create A Buying Experience Customers Appreciate
Removing friction in your sales process means developing a buying experience where the consumer finds it easy to say “yes.” Improving all aspects of your sales process (reducing complexity, saving the consumer time, building trust) will ultimately enhance the overall consumer experience.
When every aspect of your sales process flows smoothly and naturally from start to finish, consumers are more likely to complete their purchase and come back to do so in the future. Continuously improving every phase of your sales process develops stronger business-consumer relationships and promotes continued growth in your business.
