Exhausted Before An Important Meeting? Consider This
Life is rarely super-convenient at every moment of the day. From time to time (sometimes often,) we have to do things we’re not too fond of. Had a bad night’s sleep? Well, most of us still have to go to work. That’s not to say a self-denying or dismissive approach towards well-being in favor of your professional progress is the right way to go. You’re a human, and must always prioritize your wellbeing over anything else because health is priceless. That being said, sometimes we have to negotiate the little annoyances of our schedule. Maybe we’ve had a busy day, a bad night’s sleep, a tiresome set of tasks, and now we have an important meeting. Maybe you’ve rocked into work despite a difficult school run, or after your car breaks down. During those moments, when you would really rather be anyone else, anywhere else, it’s worth relying on a few helpful backup techniques to power through and still retain your well-being. Here’s some advice for maximizing the time you spend in business even when you’re Exhausted Before An Important Meeting.
Find Your Energy Boost
There are a few methods you can use to recharge your batteries and gain a little more energy, but you have to be mindful. A good place to start is to quick walk outside and take some deep breaths in fresh air. You can pair this with a nutritious snack, sometimes a little sugar can keep you going. You may also reach for that cup of coffee, or green tea because that’s packed with anti-oxidants. An energy enhancer can help you feel less tired and gain the cognitive focus you need to perform. Just makes sure to take breaks when you can.
Try Power Poses
Believe it or not, the posture of your body can determine how alert you feel. You can harness the power of body language to boost confidence and motivation if you know how. Heading to a private space (a restroom counts) and fixing your posture, throwing your arms up in victory, or playing your hands on your hips in confidence can actually fool you into feeling more attentive and focused. Such poses can help reduce stress hormones as well. It makes sense, when we feel anxious and tired we tend to curl up, but when we’re alert and strong, we’re more upright. You can hack this process the reverse way, and unlock a little more confidence even when you’re tired.
Be Direct & Focused
Sometimes, being attentive, focused and direct is not only helpful, it lets you cut through the nonsense that tends to be prevalent at meetings. Give strong, simple answers, be direct, and don’t necessarily entertain hypotheticals or overly conversational language. It will indicate you’re there to do business, even if you’re hosting a job interview or meeting a client. You can exchange pleasantries of course, but having a focus on achieving the goal of the meeting will not only help it pass more quickly with direct goals achieved, but it will help you think more clearly when you’re tired and complicated expressions might not be your strong suit right now.
With this advice, we hope you can get through that meeting and thrive, despite how tired you currently are.
