FULL SHOW NOTES

This week on The MisFitNation Show, we had the honor of flipping the mic with David Pasqualone—host of the Remarkable People Podcast, father, born-again believer, marketer, and relentless overcomer.

David’s story isn’t one of smooth roads or easy wins. It’s about tumors that nearly killed him, panic attacks that left him gasping for answers, and years of searching for purpose. And yet, through faith and grit, he’s built a life of resilience and service.

“I Shouldn’t Even Be Alive”

David was a high school senior when his health started failing in ways nobody understood. Matches he should have won slipped away as his body betrayed him.

“Well, you got five, six seconds. I don’t care how big you are—your brain is going to shut off. When I was on the ground, I was shutting off and I could feel it. I didn’t know why. And I was embarrassed—it was one of my last matches my senior year, and people were looking at me like, ‘What the hell is wrong with you? How’d you lose that?’

Looking back, it was like—duh. The tumor was cutting off all the blood flow to my brain. And it was vascular. I was wrestling, boxing, playing football—never even had a nosebleed in my life. But that’s all God. Statistically, there’s no reason I should be alive. But I am. And that doesn’t make me special. That makes God special. And it means anybody listening who’s going through stuff—if you’re still here, there’s a reason for you.”

From Landscaping to Marketing

After the tumor surgeries, David’s dream of joining the military was over. “They removed the cheekbone, the palate—parts of my face. I was considered ‘damaged goods.’ So I thought, okay, I’ll just work landscaping again.”

But one encounter changed his path.

“I remember delivering an invoice to a customer who had just spent $250,000 on landscaping. This was 1997—that was insane money. They had multiple Jeep Cherokees in the driveway. I asked them what they did for a living, and it turned out they’d patented a simple time clock system. They were set for life off an idea and a pencil.

Meanwhile, I was the one planting their trees. That’s when I thought—nope, I’m going to college. I don’t know what yet, but I’m going to work with my mind, not just my body.”

Finding His Calling

David’s road wasn’t straight—he switched majors from engineering to marketing, sold Gateway computers without even knowing how to use them (and became a top national salesman anyway), and eventually stepped into roles in body armor sales, web design, and marketing consulting.

“I never knew what I wanted to do. Some people are born saying, ‘I want to be a doctor, a landscaper, a secretary.’ I wasn’t like that. But what I did know is that sales, at its core, is helping people.

I didn’t lie to anyone. I told customers, ‘I don’t know how to use this laptop—but I heard it’s good.’ And they bought it anyway. I felt so bad that I didn’t know enough, I learned everything I could—building, programming, troubleshooting. God blessed, and I became a top salesman in the country.”

On Finding Purpose

When asked about how to find your calling, David gave practical advice rooted in faith and experience:

“First thing—always pray. And then write down three lists:

  • What you love.
  • What you’re good at (or what people say you’re good at).
  • What you can make money at morally.

Where those circles overlap—that’s your sweet spot. And don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t be afraid to try. Test the waters part-time if you need to. And remember—talk is cheap. The Bible says, commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. So go do something. Take action.”

Why David’s Story Matters

At 48, David says he’s still figuring it out: “I don’t know what I want to do when I grow up. But I know my purpose is to glorify God and help people grow.”

His story is a reminder that resilience isn’t about avoiding struggle—it’s about showing up, trusting God’s timing, and keeping faith when the odds say you shouldn’t even be here.

David’s Three Things for MisFitNation

We asked David what three things our audience could start doing tomorrow to be better humans. His answer was both powerful and practical:

  1. Be who God made you to be. Failures don’t define you. Live with integrity, focus on what’s right, and let love for God and others guide your actions.
  2. Do the right thing—even when it’s hard. You already know the right choices to make; it’s about having the courage to follow through even when it costs you.
  3. Lead with compassion, not destruction. Instead of crushing others when they fail or disagree, ask questions, guide them, and approach situations with love and empathy. Correct when needed, but never forget to treat people the way you’d want to be treated.

These three things aren’t just words—they’re a roadmap for living a life of character, compassion, and influence.

David’s stories, from managing difficult leadership moments to helping people rise after failure, show what happens when truth is paired with compassion. His approach is a reminder that strength is not just about power, but about lifting others up, even when holding them accountable.
