When you run a business, you need somewhere to run it from. You’re going to need an official, registered business address and – in many cases – you’re going to need places for your staff to work, to store your stock and to complete a host of business based activities. Now, you’re going to want to make sure that you put plenty of thought into your business and its commercial premises. When it comes down to it, professional spaces are going to be a big area of investment. Spaces don’t come cheap and you’re going to want to make sure that you choose the right option to tick all of your business’ boxes. Here are some areas to focus on.
Renting
The vast majority of businesses rent commercial spaces. This is the easiest, most straightforward and lowest responsibility means of acquiring a space for your staff to work from. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have to put any effort into the process. You’re going to need to take time to browse options in the area you’re planning on operating from. Start off by coming up with a budget. This will allow you to see what you can afford to spend and how far this money will go. High street destinations tend to be more costly than more rural areas with lower accessibility and footfall. Make sure to shop around. You don’t have to make an offer on the first suitable place you see.
Starting from Scratch
If you need a small business space, you may find that it’s more cost effective to buy some land and build the space yourself, using the services of a company like LEED construction, than to rent a commercial space from a landlord on an ongoing basis. Sure, you may have to invest a lot to get started, but you then don’t have to worry about forking out monthly costs for the duration of your business’ future operations. This tends to work well for options such as storage rooms, stock rooms and even small scale offices for a small number of staff.
Remote Work
Many business owners are realizing that commercial premises aren’t entirely necessary since the pandemic. As people were encouraged to work from home, some of us came to the realization that our staff worked just as productively and showed higher levels of job satisfaction working from their own spaces, cutting out the need for businesses to provide working space at all. This saves costs and can see you maximize your profit margins. If you’re considering switching to a fully remote workforce, commercial premises worries and costs can quickly become null and void.
These are just a few ideas to get started with when it comes to focusing on commercial premises for your company. At the end of the day, only you can know what will work for your business and your team. Take some time to mull over your workspaces and offer the best solutions based on what you find.
