Advertising is all about getting your message and brand out there to as many relevant people as possible. The internet is a big place and there are many online platforms that you can use to advertise your company through. Some of the biggest and most popular online platforms include:
- YouTube
- Amazon
- TikTok
A well-targeted advert on these platforms can help you generate lots of new customers. However, you’re having to compete with a lot of other brands advertising their products and services. This can make it harder to stand out on these popular platforms.
Choosing a few slightly more alternative platforms to advertise on may not expose you to quite so many users, however you don’t have to compete with quite so many advertisers. This can make it potentially easier to cut through the noise on these platforms. In this post, we’ll explore a few alternative online advertising platforms that could be worth considering.
Major news sites
Many online news sites display adverts throughout articles or in their sidebar. This advertising space is typically sold to advertisers via platforms like Google Ads, but can also be sold directly to advertisers through long-term sponsorship deals. Sponsors can connect with major news sites through platforms like PubMatic or Magnite, or by directly contacting the news publication and asking to be a sponsor. Try to choose selective publications or articles to advertise on that are relevant to your brand.
Music streaming platforms
The likes of Spotify and Pandora display adverts to users who don’t have a premium account. These adverts are typically audio adverts or video adverts. Advertising through these platforms can be an opportunity to experiment with music and jingles while often costing a lot less than traditional radio advertising. You also have the unique option of targeting users based on music taste and podcast preferences.
Mobile games
People of all ages play mobile games and they can be a fun medium to advertise through. Mobile games can take the form of simple static banners, video adverts (which players may have to watch in full to obtain in-game prizes) or interactive playable ads. You can also potentially select mobile games related to niches that are relevant to your business. For example, if you’re selling a cooking book, it might make sense to bid for an add on cooking-related mobile game.
Crypto exchanges and dApps
Using crypto ad networks, you can run Web3 adverts through crypto exchanges and dApps. These are a new and unique form of advertising that does not rely on user data to target ads, instead rewarding users payment in cryptocurrency for engaging with adverts. Users must have a crypto wallet to engage with these ads. Such adverts are a particularly great way of promoting crypto-related products and services.
Alternative search engines
Google and Bing are the two most popular search engines and the two most common platforms for companies to advertise through. However, there are other search engines to consider that you can also run adverts through such as DuckDuckGo, Yahoo and Ecosia. By not having to compete with so many other advertisers, you could find that you have more success with search ads on these platforms – particularly when advertising popular products and services.
