5 Quick Tips for Building a Successful Blog
Building a successful news blog takes time. You need to put in the effort, learn about SEO and scour the internet for relevant topics. But there are a few ways to get ahead of your niche.
Sign Up for Google Alerts
So you don’t get bogged down, it’s best to choose a specific niche and stick with it. Even sports news is too broad, and a particular sport might be better. Cricket (see this example: https://sportnews.in/Cricket), for instance, is loved by millions in the UK, Pakistan, India, and Australia, and even has further leagues you could focus on. But how do you get the news? The quickest way is to sign up to Google Alerts for customized articles sent straight to your inbox. By doing this, you don’t need to go and purchase papers and magazines for yesterday’s news.
Verify the Information
Of course, when you use Google Alerts, you might end up with dozens of pieces per day. And we all know about the scourge of fake news. Using Google Alerts is easy, and you will see a headline and snippet of any articles. But it’s also helpful to verify where the news comes from, which could mean pouring through a lot of information. So first, to verify a piece, read the copy, not just the headline. Also, make sure it comes from a reputable outlet, and check the publish date and author. Then check other reputable news sources to see if it is being reported.
Don’t Copy or Spin
When you find a piece of news that you feel appeals to your readers and is relevant to your niche, by all means, share it. But to attract people to your blog, you will need to write relevant articles. This means using existing news since you don’t directly link to world events. First, remember NEVER to copy and paste the text. Copying and pasting will destroy your site’s SEO and could even be illegal copyright infringement. So instead, you write a new article about your niche by forming your own, based on the available information. And never spin with AI bots.
Post on Social Media
One of the best ways to supplement your blog for a traffic increase is to share your news on social media. Of course, Facebook and Twitter are the largest and easiest to use. But you could also consider LinkedIn. However, you must use only one platform to avoid SEO sanctions. If you want more people to click through to your blog, don’t post the entire article on your chosen social platform. Instead, post the link, and if your blog is configured correctly for OpenGraph, it will automatically create a snippet with an image for users to click through.
Upload to Video Platforms
Further to social media, you can also supplement traffic using video platforms like YouTube. For example, you can discuss trending topics with a videocast or podcast recording, unlike straight news. However, where this can help is to include links to original articles and your blog in the video descriptions. Additionally, YouTube also provides another avenue for engaging with your audience using the comments section. It’s easy to ignore comments or switch them off, But they help your video rank in both Google SERPs and YouTube.
Summary
Writing the news is challenging and time-consuming because you need to source and verify the information. However, you can get Google Alerts for news and rewrite for blogs and socials.
