Going for a weekend away can always lead to a great time, as long as you pick the right place to go. A weekend in New York can be one of the better options, and there are plenty of reasons why. Some of the more notable of these include:
- Having an active theater life for arts enthusiasts.
- Boasting an active nightlife.
- Offering countless amazing restaurants to eat in.
- Letting you have the time of your life.
These can all be great reasons to go to New York for the trip. That doesn’t mean just taking the plunge and going for it, though. Instead, it’s worth knowing a few things ahead of time.
There are quite a few misconceptions about New York, and you could make a few assumptions if you haven’t been there before. Thankfully, this doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Once you know a few things, you shouldn’t have a problem planning an amazing weekend in New York.
Some of these stand out a lot more than others, making them more than worth going through.
It Can Be Expensive
A lot of so-called facts get thrown around about New York. One of the more notable, and accurate, of these is that it’s an expensive place to go. It could end up costing you a decent bit of money, even if you’re just there for the weekend. Be prepared to spend a decent bit of money.
This doesn’t just affect the flights and hotels, though. Food and drinks can also be relatively expensive, though this can depend on exactly where you’re going. Make sure you have money to spare when you’re there.
There’ll Be a Lot of Walking
New York is quite a large city, and there’ll be countless places you’ll want to go to. While renting a car could be tempting, the chronic traffic could get in the way. You could end up spending more than a bit of time stuck in traffic, which is what you’ll want to avoid. That could mean you’ll end up doing a decent bit of walking.
This doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Instead, it gives you a bit of exercise and lets you see more sights than you would’ve thought. The trick to this is knowing what to do with anything you’re carrying. Leaving belongings at the hotel or in Penn Station lockers could be enough to help with this. You’ll avoid needing to drag things around.
The Subway Helps
Speaking of getting around, cars and walking aren’t the only options you’ll have. New York’s subway is well-known, and it’s worth using this whenever you need to get somewhere relatively far away. While you’ll still need to walk to and from the subway stations, this shouldn’t be too long of a walk.
You’ll also need to get familiar with the subway lines and schedule. Look these up before you get to New York so you know what to expect. You could end up planning your trip a lot better than you would’ve thought. At a minimum, you’ll make sure you can get around relatively easily.
There Are Recommended Times to Visit
There’s never a bad time to visit New York, but that doesn’t mean some times aren’t better. Instead, it could be better worth visiting during certain times instead of others. If you want nicer weather, for example, then it could be worth visiting during April and June. These will be warm, but not so hot it’s uncomfortable.
If you’d prefer some snow, then the winter months would be better recommended. It might also be worth avoiding some of the more tourism-heavy parts of the year. New York will be a whole lot busier, and you mightn’t enjoy it as much as you’d like. A lot of this comes down to personal preferences.
New York is one of the most well-known cities around the world. It’s easy to see why so many people want to go there. You could end up having the time of your life while you’re there. Whether it’s a full holiday or just a weekend in New York, you shouldn’t have a problem having an amazing time.
If you’re going there for the first time, though, it’s worth knowing a few things ahead of time. You wouldn’t want to have a culture shock when you get there, after all. Thankfully, this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Instead, it’s just a matter of knowing a few things so you can have an amazing weekend in New York.
