When you’ve advertised a role for a position in your business, you will be seeking the best candidates who are going to come from a variety of different backgrounds with a variety of different experiences. You might be quick to notice some red flags throughout the entire process, and that’s pretty normal, from candidates showing up late or speaking poorly about a past employer to giving vague answers and not really engaging in the process. There are some red flags out there that you can’t always spot.
For example, did you know that 58% of businesses haven’t hired someone with a criminal record in the past year? This figure is important because there are many companies out there who won’t give somebody a second chance, and the red flags that you spot during the interview process aren’t always going to be criminal. Keeping an eye out for the green flags will help you to determine whether you found the best candidate, but sometimes the best candidate may have had a slightly unsavory background. People genuinely do deserve a second chance and if something in their background checks flags and that flag is red for you, then you should be considerate of why they are applying for a job now and where they are at this point in life. You never know. You may have just found the best candidate you could ever have because they are looking for that second chance. So here are five signs.that you have found the right candidate for the job.
- You know what they’re doing regardless of their background. If they are an informed candidate and they are armed with lots of knowledge about the company and about the industry that they are working in then it’s a good sign that you’ve chosen the right person. Somebody who goes the extra mile to do the research on your company is somebody who makes for a high quality hire.
- You can feel that enthusiasm. Often it’s not just about what a candidate says, but it’s the way that they say it and the way they carry themselves. Even during video interviews, you can see and hear when candidates can take pride in their previous work and when they are excited about the work that you are offering them. You want employees who care about the work that they do, and they want to do it for a while, so keep an eye out for that.
- They are honest. There is no such thing as a perfect candidate, and a candidate who could discuss their weaknesses and where they go wrong and what they need to improve on is a candidate that is right for a role.hat’s a kind of self awareness and a lack of nerves when bringing it up is a good sign that you have a good candidate.
- They are quick to communicate. One of the hardest parts of getting a new job is trying to gain access to the candidates of your choice and get them answering emails and answering the phone. You know you’ve got a great candidate when they’re communicative and getting in touch with you quickly and easily.
The interview flows really well. You want candidates to thoroughly answer all of your questions, but with an interview with a great candidate, you forget you’re even interviewing them and they are just having a conversation with you. Interviews should be painless and not feel like an interrogation.
