When you’re traveling on the road, it can sometimes feel like you’re at a disadvantage when it comes to getting your work done. However, if you’re aware of the tips and tricks to boost your productivity, then a one or two-hour commute into or out of the office can be just as productive as sitting at your desk. With that being said, there are certainly plenty of tips for maximizing productivity on the road. Here are a few to get you started!
1. Plan and prioritize the tasks required
First and foremost, think about the tasks that need completing. Order these in whatever line-up required, typically going for the hardest first.
This is something that is worth doing before you leave for your travels. Whether you’re only hopping on the train or staying in a hotel overnight, you want to make sure you have all of your to-do list ready so that you can get straight to it as soon as you have the opportunity to work on your travels.
2. Upgrade to business or first class travel
Upgrading is definitely something worth considering when you’re looking to be productive. For a train journey, that might mean upgrading to first class, and for flights, opting for premium or business, depending on what your work budget provides for such excursions.
When you’re able to upgrade to business or first class travel, you often have more comfort, better amenities, and access to free Wi-Fi. You’ll also be able to have an abundance of snacks and refreshments, so you don’t need to bring your own.
You should also look at options where corporate shuttle transportation or private transfers are available to really help focus on your work without distraction.
3. Take a break
Taking a break is just as important as whether you’re in the office or on a flight. It’s important that you’re not burning the candles at both ends and feeling run down as a result of not relaxing for five or ten minutes.
Try to incorporate break times into your work and make sure this time is to do nothing but sit and reset with a cup of coffee, or to take your lunch break outside or in a canteen, rather than from behind a desk.
4. Have plenty of snacks to hand
It’s always good to have plenty of snacks on hand when you’re traveling and working. Sometimes, you won’t have the time to go grab a drink or bite to eat, and so having some snacks and refreshments can be helpful to keep you energized and ultimately, more productive instead of thinking about your next meal.
5. Make use of your tools and technology
Finally, make sure to use any and all tools that you would use in the workplace when it comes to technology. This is particularly important for the purpose of staying motivated and productive within your working environment, whatever that might look like.
Stay connected with a handy internet speed test no matter where you are, which can let you know if you need to pick up a portable hotspot of your own before you go any further. Make sure you have both your personal and your work phone, so you’re less likely to run out of battery before you reach a point where you can charge it again.
Remember, when you’re on the road, it’s more important than ever to use tech to your advantage.
These tips will help to maximize the productivity of your work, wherever you are and whenever you might be traveling for work in the future.
