How To Throw a Fantastic Business Networking Event

You’ve probably heard the old saying about it not being what you know, but what, that gets you the advantage in business. Indeed, there is some truth to it, because when you know the right people you can make things happen so much more quickly and easily. Of course, getting to meet and connect with the right people doesn’t just happen by chance. Choose the right venue 

When hosting a networking event, the first thing that you will need to consider is the venue you will use. Many people approach hotels for this purpose however, it is often better to look for space that is run as a dedicated events venue. 

Indeed, when choosing a venue space for rent, it is not only the room you will need to consider, but the facilities they offer like state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and fast broadband. Otherwise, your event may not be as impactful as you’d hoped. 

Additionally, it’s important to pick a venue in the right location concerning the people you are inviting. For example, asking your participants to travel halfway across the country, or even more than 90 mins in traffic could lead to a much lower turnout than you’d hoped. 

 

Decide on a method of capturing data 

Remember data is the most valuable thing you will get from a networking event. We’re talking names, email addresses, job titles, social media handles, and wherever possible the kinds of people they would like to be connected with. After all, it’s this data that can be mined later on to provide value to the attendees and so cement the connections made on the day. With that in mind, a pen and paper registration is fine, but an online check-in is even better. 

 

Put someone on introvert support

Not everyone is good or comfortable speaking with strangers, but this doesn’t mean that they don’t have valuable things to offer the group. Indeed, a room full of only extroverts all viewing for the lime late can become an exhausting echo chamber pretty quick. With that in mind, recruiting some of the attendees that you know the best to make sure no one ends up on their own is a smart idea. 

 

Bring the right people together 

Successful networking is about making meaningful connections between individuals. The good news is that you can make it easier for this to happen by running groups with specific interests and topics in mind. For example, you may wish to run a group for those looking for and willing to offer mentorship in certain areas, therefore ensuring that the right people connect, and not leaving it to chance. 

 

Always follow up and ask for feedback 

Last of all, do not forget to follow up with every single attendee, especially when you are looking to form a lasting connection that can be leveraged for support later on. Remember to approach with an offer of value or help first, before asking for anything. Also be sure to ask them for feedback, so you will know what to improve on the next time around.
